The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation (JHF) and Johannesburg Crisis Alliance (JCA) welcome the partial re-opening of the Johannesburg City Library (JCL), scheduled for 09.00 on March 21, 2025. It is only appropriate that the partial re-opening is taking place on Human Rights Day, as access to information is a fundamental human right as enshrined in our constitution. We eagerly await the full re-opening of this important civic resource towards the middle of this year.
We would like to thank everyone who supported the JHF/JCA campaign for the reopening of the JCL. Your interest and participation in the library issue proves that a committed and active citizenry can indeed make a difference.

Good morning i watched carte blanche last night and there was a really interesting clip on the reopening of the l;ibrary
i would like to know if ;library is open on a sunday .Is it safe to visit and where can we park
If we wanted to research a particular subject could one ask in advance for books to be made available for us
we are 2 old aged pensioners and not to keen to walk on our own in tpown.
Hi. Thanks for your comment – apologies for the delay in replying. Unfortunately, no public libraries are currently open on weekends. We know that Library Services are currently in negotiations with the unions to get libraries open on Saturday mornings. I don’t believe Sundays are under discussion.
