The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation (JHF) has noted with concern several instances whereby the authorities are refusing to renew the leases of reliable and long-standing tenants who have been beneficially occupying and maintaining municipally-owned heritage properties.
In the current economic and social environment, ‘good’ tenants are hard to find and we recommend that the authorities should allow tenants with a proven track record to remain in place and rather concentrate their efforts on the many thousands of problem properties on their books that require urgent attention, new tenants, re-development, etc.
