Research Centre

Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is dedicated to researching the heritage of our city. Our volunteer researchers maintain an impressive database on historic buildings and personalities.

We have been digitising our archives, a project which was originally started through a grant received from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund. It is a work in progress and will be added to as more material is indexed and scanned. We currently have nearly 175 000 documents scanned covering 16 000 sites and subjects, and the list continues to grow. While members generally have free access to the material, there is a fee for non-members and organisations.

Those interested in obtaining further information from our archives are welcome to contact the Foundation at research@joburgheritage.org.za
