The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation celebrates Heritage Weekend with a packed programme of tours
For the first time in two years, the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is once again presenting a live and in-person Heritage Weekend programme. And Joburger’s are in for a real treat.
The diverse schedule includes an art tour, a visit to the tallest building in South Africa, an insider’s guide to Noordgesig, a trip to Fordsburg, a birthday celebration in Orlando East, and several classic Randlord mansions. It’s the perfect way to re-discover and celebrate our city’s unique heritage.
This year, Heritage Weekend takes place on Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th of September (the 24th is South Africa’s national Heritage Day) and the JHF will be offering up to 3 different bus tours each morning and 3 each afternoon over the two days. All tours will depart from Holy Family College in Parktown. There will also be a big book sale at Holy Family, along with other activities. Food and snacks will be on sale throughout.
According to JHF chairperson, Flo Bird, “Heritage Weekend is an opportunity to showcase the JHF and all the important heritage-related activities we support across our city. The foundation is largely volunteer-run and we need as many supporters as we can get. So, this is a great way to meet the public and, hopefully, get them involved in the work that we do”.
To encourage participation, the JHF is offering substantially discounted rates for all their Heritage Weekend tours. Advance bookings will cost just R80 per ticket. Bookings on the day will cost R100 each (if there’s availability).
